Provinces, Politics, Police and Pie in Naveria

Writer: Casper von NaveriaCasper von Naveria

This Friday has proved to be the most important day in recent Naverian history. A system of provinces has been proposed for the first time since the dissolution of the Navārdian Free Land. The last of the candidates for the general elections are being announced. The residential citizens of Sabiland have settled within the mandate and celebrated their new home, with the help of some special guests. The Orblian Observer presents an exclusive look into these ongoing events.

New Provincial System Proposed

A system of province-like entities has been proposed within the Naverian nation for the first time since the dissolution of the Navārdian Free Land, the first of two governmental systems which existed within the Phoklandian Free State. The new entities are as-of-yet unnamed but are likely to be called cantons or provinces (they will be referred to as the latter within this article for simplicity). The new provinces would act as groups of existing territorial divisions within a geographical area and be used for census data, local advisories and possibly organization of a police system.

Two provinces are proposed to exist within this new system, called San Benito and the Overseas Territories. San Benito would consist of Orbly, Pope Island, New Santiago and Sabiland; while the Overseas Territories would consist of Arcelia and Holltasant. The parish of Rhyrodesia does not exist within the "Orbly metropolitan area" or another continent, and as such would exist outside of a province for the time being.

The proposed system was created by HRH Duke Casper von Naveria, but is not planned to be formally introduced until the new parliament is formed later this month. Changes and expansions of the system are bound to occur in the meantime.

Candidates for General Election Revealed

The final roster of candidates for the 2020 Naverian general election was revealed this evening, with a total of four candidates across the nation's three represented divisions. HRH Duke Casper von Naveria took office as Governor of Orbly by default, following a similar result in Rhyrodesia earlier this month. A cousin of the monarch by the alias of Frederick Callahan announced his candidacy for nonresidential representative on the 3rd, and Commissar for Press Richard Seeger followed suit just yesterday. The general election campaigning period begins on July 11th. Both nonresidential representative candidates are expected to release full statements in the coming days, though Callahan has stated that "It's nice to have a little competition...".

On the flipside, many citizens refused to run for elected office. The residents of New Santiago and Sabiland have no elected positions to vote upon, though Sabiland may gain such positions if it becomes a parish. Former Phoklandian Defense Minister General Steelbottom announced that he would not attempt to become the nonresidential representative very early on due to his apparent retirement from micronational politics. Both of the monarch's parents are not running for Governor of Orbly due to their lack of political experience, though HRH Duke Father Benjamin is still considering leading the new police force.

Sabilandian Residential Population Moves In

Royal Highnesses Duke Grandmother Pauline von Naveria and Duke Great Grandmother Violet Callahan permanently moved into Sabiland on Friday, ending two months of anticipation starting with the mandate's annexation. A small party was organized, with the royal family gathering to eat American pizza and a chocolate chess pie baked in Orbly.

Much of the day was spent unpacking boxes and exploring Sabiland and surrounding American lands, leading to the discovery of three different edible plants growing in the southern region of the mandate. Additionally, Peachtree City Police Chief Janet Moon paid the new residents a visit due to her ties with members of the royal family who work in the American police, introducing them to their community officer and posing with the Duke for a photo. This is thought to be the most important interaction between American and Naverian government officials yet.

Because much of the day was occupied by labor, Sabiland has not made a transition to a permanent government system as of yet. Decisions on this subject are expected to be made within the month.
